My First Black Forest Cake

My niece's birthday was approaching and my sister was gaining a little bit of confidence in my ability to bake a decent cake. So she took the risk and ventured to try out my cake for the birthday party. My niece Rachana wanted a Black Forest Cake. I had never made this before. Of course I forgot to mention this to my sis:-)). I was not about to lose my chance to bake the cake...

I did my research on this. Finding cherries was the toughest part though. Me and my Man Friday Chandru searched for this in most supermarkets, but could not find a tin of this. As a last resort, I thought of asking my friendly baker to sell me some from his tin:-)). I was so glad I asked him, as he directed me to Durga Enterprises, where I found so many more goodies like chocolate chips, Dark Chocolate bars etc etc.

So made my basic chocolate cake, soaked it with simple sugar syrup and some of the cherries syrup, filled the cake with whipped cream and chopped cherries. I usually put the finishing touches to the cake at the last moment. But I got a little adventurous and put the cherries the previous night. The cherries did ooze out some of their gorgeous color on my white whipped cream and it was another lesson learnt.

The tasty cake though was a super success!!
